Following reports that at least 37 locals died as a result of breathing in toxic vapors while participating in local mining operations in Zurak hamlet, Wase Local Government Area, the federal government has blocked a mining site in Plateau State.
According to reports, the terrible event happened when young men who were working in an underground pit were exposed to hazardous vapors that were thought to have accumulated in tunnels with inadequate ventilation.
According to reports, a large number of the victims were in the 20–35 age range.
About 25 people were taken to the hospital for treatment after inhaling what was thought to be carbon monoxide, in addition to the fatalities.
Following the incident, Solid Unit Nigeria Limited, the operator of Mining Licence 11810, was ordered to suspend operations by Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake.

He requested that the governor convey his condolences and support to the impacted families as well as the Wase community as a whole.
The minister has dispatched a top-level inquiry team, led by Yusuf Yabo, the ministry’s permanent secretary, to determine what caused the catastrophe.
