Lukman Adeleye, the minority leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which elected six members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Lukman Adeleye, who represents the Odogbolu State Constituency, Dickson Awolaja, Remo-North, Lawal Samsudeen, Ogun Waterside, Waliu Owode, Ijebu-East, Oluseun Adesanya, Ijebu-North East, and Damilare Bello, Sagamu I are among the members.
According to reports, during Tuesday’s session at the Assembly Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, Speaker Oludaisi Elemide read a joint letter of defection from the PDP to the APC.
They said that an internal conflict that “increasingly hindered the effective and adequate political engagements” was the reason behind their withdrawal from the PDP.
They added that the necessity to connect with a progressive and transformative agenda that would better enable them to provide significant democratic dividends to their voters was the driving force behind the defection.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to our legislative duties as well as improved welfare and overall development of our constituents,” the letter continued.
“We also need to take this chance to thank the House members and leadership for their cooperation and support.
“Please acknowledge this letter as our official notification and give it the appropriate recognition in accordance with established legislative protocols.”
