At least three suspected gunrunners have been taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) for allegedly providing weapons and ammunition to criminals in Kaduna State.

According to the DSS, coordinated sting operations in the state’s Igabi and Kachia local government areas resulted in the arrests.
The agency claims that one of the suspects, a 30-year-old man, was caught with two AK-47 rifles, a PKT machine gun, more than 200 rounds of live ammunition, and four empty magazines hidden in sacks of maize along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass in Igabi.

Along the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway, two more were caught trafficking three AK-47 firearms to robbers in a Volkswagen Golf car in Doka village in Kachia.
In response, Governor Uba Sani praised the DSS for the successful operation and promised that his administration’s peace model would not allow bandits or other criminal elements to hide.

The governor also thanked President Bola Tinubu and the Director-General of the DSS for their ongoing support of Kaduna’s security framework through Sule Shuaibu, his Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs.

Governor Sani added that his administration’s non-kinetic peace strategy had drastically lowered crime rates throughout the state and cautioned criminal groups against committing acts that could jeopardize the stability of the state.

The secret police promised that the culprits would be held accountable and stated that investigations into the case are still ongoing.

It restated its determination to stop arms trafficking and stop Kaduna from turning into a safe haven for illicit firearms.
