The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) named Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) the winner of the November 8, 2025, elections, however George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governorship in the Anambra election, has challenged the results.
Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was among the fifteen other contenders that Soludo reportedly defeated.
Just six hours after the final pronouncement, Moghalu spoke to reporters in his Nnewi office on Sunday and insisted that the exercise did not represent the people’s desire.
Moghalu described the poll’s conduct as seriously defective and said that extensive irregularities, particularly vote buying, compromised the process.
“In my opinion, the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State fell short of expectations,” he stated. I hereby reject it in its whole.
“I have run for office before, but this election was unique. It was concerning how much vote buying there was.
Additionally, the LP candidate asserted that some juveniles were allowed to cast ballots and that they were seen holding voter cards.
“Children who were not supposed to carry voter cards were openly seen with them and allowed to vote,” he claimed.
“The integrity of the process is called into question by these issues.”
Moghalu further claimed that voters in certain polling places complained that the Labour Party’s name appeared on the ballot without its emblem, which he claimed may have confused voters trying to find the party.
“This is part of the unsettling reports we received from the field,” he stated. These anomalies are too important to overlook.
After obtaining a thorough report from agents stationed throughout the state, the LP candidate promised to provide a more thorough statement.
“After I receive the complete election report, we will analyze it and decide on our next course of action,” he stated. However, it is evident that I disapprove of the outcome.
He refused to disclose if he would go to court, claiming that it would be “premature” to make a decision before considering all the available information.
In response to allegations that some LP agents were absent from voting places, Moghalu stated that some may have quit their jobs due of dissatisfaction with irregularities they saw.
