Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in last Saturday’s Anambra election, has criticized the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for winning, calling the entire process “compromised.”
Speaking to reporters in Awka on Sunday, Ukachukwu asserted that the poll was tainted by widespread violence, intimidation, and attacks directed at his followers.
Many of his followers were allegedly brutalized during the election, according to the APC candidate, and some of them suffered severe injuries and lost personal belongings.
He maintained that such circumstances prevented the election from accurately reflecting the people’s actual intentions.
Ukachukwu disclosed that he has started consulting with party stakeholders and supporters to decide on the future course of action.
“We thank members of our team, they are all brave soldiers, and they are all winners in different ways, including those who were intimidated in various ways, including having their cars and houses burned, and even my deputy, who was intimidated into fleeing for her life when they threatened her,” he stated. They are all victorious.
“I summoned you here to let you know that we are talking to our agents and gathering information about what transpired that day. We will discuss it when the time is appropriate.
“Our opponents kidnapped some of my agents and held them till after the election; these issues are not worth discussing right now. We are still gathering data from both of our party agents at this stage, and I need to speak with my party to find out what comes next.
According to Ukachukwu, his supporter was kidnapped and held until after the election, and funds intended to compensate party operatives were referred to as “vote-buying money.”
“They arrested my supporter who was to pay our agents, claiming he was carrying money meant for vote buying,” he continued. Is it possible to purchase votes against a governor who currently holds the state’s treasury? Who bought votes will be revealed by the election’s outcome. I would have received less votes if I had purchased a vote.
“Go investigate; every individual detained was an APC member. Visit the young woman whose home was set on fire in Anambra East; her only transgression is that she canvassed for our victory and supported our party.
However, having 99,000 real votes is much more remarkable for me. These voters did so because Anambra needs to go forward. I even received enough votes to convince them that the APC in Anambra can no longer be disregarded.
“Those 99,000 voters are among those I will discuss over our next course of action. These individuals think Anambra has to be superior. Despite the fact that we were unable to compensate our operatives for kidnapping my supporter, they continued to work for us.
“They can’t claim that APC doesn’t exist in Anambra today because 99,000 is a big number.”
