The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Zamfara State has accused certain politicians of hiring thugs with guns to sabotage Bello Matawalle’s scheduled visit to the state.
Yusuf Idris, the party’s publicity secretary, revealed this to reporters in Gusau.
Idris claims that the purported plot was intended to divert attention from Matawalle’s homecoming celebration on Thursday.
The minister is due to see party leaders, members, and supporters in Gusau and his hometown of Maradun, he added, adding that the party has made sufficient preparations for his arrival.
Idris bemoaned the hiring of thugs to attack the minister’s convoy and create mayhem along the Gusau–Maradun highway, especially in the Tsafe area.
He stated, “Unfortunately, we have credible information that there is a serious, destructive plan for the minister’s visit.”
However, the party advised its members to follow the law and refrain from bringing weapons while they were there.
“In order to maintain peace and order, we are therefore cautioning our members against carrying any kind of weapon throughout the minister’s visit and beyond,” Idris stated.
Additionally, he urged security services to be aware of the purported scheme and to make sure that anyone caught trying to stir up trouble is detained and turned over to law enforcement.
