Amidst the PDP’s escalating national crisis, the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has repudiated people posing as its delegates at the party’s convention in Ibadan, cautioning that no legitimate delegates from the state participated in the exercise.
The party’s state chairman, Aliyu Jalam Gumel, insisted that Jigawa PDP was not represented at the convention in a message that was posted on his official Facebook page late on Saturday.
His stance was taken just hours after the Ibadan meeting proceeded in spite of a recent Federal High Court ruling that stopped it and confirmed former governor Sule Lamido’s ability to run for party leadership.
Gumel claimed that fraudsters posing as Jigawa elected delegates had been spreading bogus information online.
“These fakes don’t speak for us. He wrote, “Jigawa PDP is dedicated to real reconciliation and legal procedures that unite, not divide, our great party.”
At the Ibadan conference, he continued, anyone posing as a Jigawa delegate was nothing more than “a fraudster.”
The chairman emphasized that the Federal High Court’s ruling reinstating Lamido’s right to run for chairperson was consistent with the chapter’s boycott of the convention.
“The Jigawa chapter has completely boycotted the event under my direction. “This position aligns with the court ruling that supports Lamido’s involvement in party procedures,” he said.
The chapter would only take part in legal and inclusive party activities, Gumel stated.
He declared, “We will not be attending the convention.” “The ruling demonstrates Jigawa’s adherence to the law and efforts at internal reconciliation.”
Gumel bemoaned the PDP’s internal strife and expressed concern about the party’s current situation.
He stated, “We are saddened by the way our party affairs are being handled, especially the current crisis rocking its foundations.”
He stated that the Jigawa PDP was still dedicated to bringing people back together in spite of the unrest.
“We are determined to solely take part in procedures that will bring our party together. We urge leaders to find a solution to this situation by reaching out to all parties who have been wronged,” he said.
The chairman reaffirmed the chapter’s stance and warned the public not to trust anyone purporting to speak for Jigawa.
“The PDP’s Jigawa State Chapter has disassociated itself from the current convention.” He cautioned that anyone posing as a Jigawa State delegate is a con artist.
