Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the national chairman of the party, has been accused by the North-Central APC Forum of preventing Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang from joining the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
The forum stated in a statement on Sunday that Yilwatda was putting his own political ambitions ahead of the expansion of the party and had failed to bring the North-Central area together. The organization said that the chairman, who was defeated by Mutfwang in the 2023 Plateau governorship election, is preventing the governor from defecting in order to safeguard his political aspirations for 2027.
Yilwatda’s recent church appearance, in which he claimed to represent Christians in the North-Central, was also criticized by the forum for being divisive and going against the party’s tenets.
The forum’s chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, claimed that Yilwatda lacked political experience because he had never held an elected position and charged that he was widening rifts in Plateau State and the surrounding area. At the party’s upcoming convention in December, the forum asked the APC leadership to think about selecting a more capable national chairperson.

The organization promised to provide votes from the North-Central area in the 2027 elections and reiterated its support for President Bola Tinubu in spite of the criticisms.
