Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has been urged by Senator Barau I. Jibrin, Deputy President of the Senate, to avoid using security concerns as a political football and instead concentrate on finding solutions to the state’s difficulties.

Senator Barau was responding to assertions made following the 34th Executive Council Meeting by the Kano State Government. One of his remarks, according to the administration, would undermine current security initiatives. Barau denied those accusations and said that everyone must work together to combat the nation’s insecurity, which includes bandit assaults in some areas of Kano.

The senator denied the charge and urged the administration to provide proof in a statement issued by his media assistant, Ismail Mudashir.

“False, reckless, and malicious claims by the Kano State Government that His Excellency… made a statement capable of undermining the security efforts in the state have drawn the attention of the media office of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, CFR, FCNA,” he stated.

“It is regrettable that the state government has degraded governance to this level by creating and fabricating lies to damage the Deputy President of the Senate’s rising stature,” he continued. Senator Barau never made any remarks that could jeopardize security initiatives.

According to Barau, he has consistently collaborated with pertinent parties to tackle insecurity in Kano and throughout Nigeria. “We challenge them to produce the clip in which the Deputy President of the Senate made any statement that could undermine security efforts,” he continued, issuing another challenge to the government.

Governor Yusuf was urged to take administration more seriously by the senator, who is also the ECOWAS Parliament’s First Deputy Speaker.

“Our beloved state, Kano, used to be a very close second to Lagos in terms of prosperity until governance was relegated to the background, but unfortunately, misgovernance has eroded this,” he stated.

“We have everything necessary to restore the glorious days of our state, but the governor is not taking steps in that direction,” he continued, adding that Kano may regain its former splendor provided the correct choices are made.

Barau also mentioned a number of security initiatives that he has backed in the state.

In addition to building police stations in various locations and renovating portions of the state police headquarters, he has sent cars to police formations and motorcycles for Kano North officers. Additionally, he has helped Kano’s Department of State Services (DSS).

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) training college in Gwarzo, the Nigeria Police Service Commission training institute in Kabo, and the Nigeria Immigration Service training school in Bichi have all been established thanks to the Deputy President of the Senate, according to the statement.

In order to assist security forces with their nighttime patrols, he also erected solar lamps in other areas.

The statement added that rather than criticizing Senator Barau’s character, the state administration should take note of his “significant contributions” to enhancing security in Kano.
