The Osun State branch of the Accord Party (AP) has vowed to give its ticket to the sitting Governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke, if he decides to run on the party’s platform.

It was stated that the Chairman of the party, Victor Akande, made this remark in an interview with Punch on Sunday.

He, however, indicated that neither Adeleke nor his associates had publicly contacted out to him, describing speculation about the governor using AP for his re-election as mere hearsay.

Due to internal issues within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), AP has been mentioned as one of the possible platforms for Adeleke’s reelection campaign in recent days.

Although the party currently has two candidates for its ticket in the August 8, 2026, election, Akande stated that Adeleke would be welcome to participate.

Akande remarked, “The issue of Governor Adeleke to me is still a rumour. I have never discussed that with a government official in my capacity as state chairman. Regarding Adeleke’s defection, we are not the only party they are discussing, but if he joins our party, we will extend a warm welcome to him.

“The political party door is always open. Individuals are allowed to enter and exit at any time they choose. He will be granted the same waiver to compete as everyone else who might be interested in attending. There is a standing waiver already in the party. For present, two persons have showed interest in contesting under our party, although they have not committed financially.”

In response, the Osun State PDP said that now that Adeleke has returned from a trip abroad, it is entirely up to him to choose the platform for his re-election campaign.

The Director of Media and Publicity of Osun PDP, Oladele Bamiji, in an interview with Punch, claimed that Adeleke will offer clear directives regarding whether he will remain in the PDP or go to another party.

The governor is in charge. Now that Jesus is back, we should all anticipate the instruction he will offer us. He will inform the world if it becomes necessary for him to relocate to a different party or remain in his current location, Bamiji stated.
