After an AK-47 gun, ammo, and almost ₦1.6 million were recovered during a military operation that killed two gang members, residents of Ungwan Nungu in Sanga Local Government Area, Kaduna State, are terrified due to new threats from terrorists who promised to retaliate.
The renewed threats, according to community sources who spoke to Sahara Reporters on Friday, occur just a few days after ten residents—six women and four men—were kidnapped on their fields on November 29. This has become a regular occurrence in the neighborhood.
Residents said that on Friday, as the terrorists were trying to demand a ransom for the kidnapped people, troops stopped them. According to reports, the soldiers found cash thought to be ransom money, an AK-47 gun, and one round of 9mm ammo.
In a Hausa-language recording that Sahara Reporters was able to get, the terrorists claimed that villagers had warned the army, which resulted in the deadly ambush.
One person added, “The voice note is from the terrorists who are threatening us after two of them were suspected of being killed.”
About fifteen persons, mostly youngsters, were kidnapped during a previous incident in Ungwan Nungu; five of them were eventually abandoned because they were too frail to finish the journey.
A terrorist threatened to carry out violent vengeance against the community in the audio message.
“We thank you for what you have done for us,” he remarked. I hope you all wish to coexist peacefully with us.
Are you sending soldiers to us for that reason? Are you listening to me? I vow to Almighty God—do you realize how powerful God is? We’ve “entered the same pants” as you. Despite bringing us money, you continued to send soldiers.
