Alhaji Munnir Haidara, the chairman of the Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area in Zamfara State, has accused Sadiq Chiroma, the former chairman of the local Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), of sabotaging the party even before he formally defected to the All Progressives Congress.
In a statement released on Sunday after Chiroma defected, Haidara made the assertion.
Haidara claims that Chiroma’s behavior prior to and following the most recent state assembly bye-election aroused grave doubts about his commitment.
He said that the former chairman of the PDP was “frequently seen secretly interacting with APC stakeholders in the state,” characterizing these interactions as blatant transgressions of the PDP constitution.
Haidara further asserted that Chiroma openly worked against the party’s chances of winning the bye-election and disclosed private party strategies.
The chairman of Kaura-Namoda further connected Chiroma’s purported influence to the recent defection of Mohammed Lawal Kurya Madaro, a former PDP candidate for state legislature.
He said that Chiroma’s “anti-party activities” were known to the party long before he left.
Haidara asked locals to continue supporting existing development projects and stated that the PDP in Kaura-Namoda is still grateful for Governor Dauda Lawal’s “people-oriented projects” in the region.
After Chiroma defected to the APC, he wished him luck in his new party but cautioned that he would “reap what he sowed.”
