For the Kano assembly by-elections, ten political parties are currently scheduled.
This was revealed by Ambassador Abdu Zango, the Kano State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), at a meeting of stakeholders in Kano.
He stated that ten registered parties have submitted nominations to the commission for the elections in the local government areas of Ungogo and Kano Municipal.
The APC, ADP, AAC, PRP, Dennis Labour Party, APGA, Good Party, Action Alliance (AA), Labour Party (LP), and NNPP are the parties.
Zango clarified that although nominations were made at the state level, party national office is uploading candidate information via INEC’s web portal.
We have received nominations from ten political parties as of the deadline. He stated, “The uploading procedure is still under progress, and INEC headquarters would only confirm the total number of candidates after the process is finished.
In order to supervise party primaries in the impacted areas, INEC sent monitors from its national headquarters, he continued, and reported no issues.
Regarding internal party conflicts, particularly within the NNPP, Zango stated that INEC had not received any official notification or court order pertaining to party leadership or primaries.
There isn’t a court injunction that we know of. He stated, “The law and reports from properly monitored primaries strictly govern INEC’s responsibility.”
Voters were reassured by the REC that the by-election preparations are well underway. He stated that there will be more than 1,000 polling places and more than 535,000 registered voters in the two constituencies in Kano Municipal and Ungogo where the elections will take place.
INEC encouraged eligible voters in the impacted areas to cast their ballots, guaranteeing sufficient personnel and logistical support for a seamless process.
