Samuel Nwanosike, the former chairman of Rivers State’s Ikwerre Local Government Area, claimed that the people of Rivers State were profiting from a political risk taken by Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Nwanosike told reporters that Wike’s decision to back President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections was a political gamble.

He noted that since taking office in May 2023, the president has approved the appointments of a number of state natives.

All Rivers State eligible voters, he asserted, will cast ballots for the president’s reelection in 2027.

“There’s no other way to express gratitude to a man who has done so much for Rivers State,” he said.

“Wike chose to endorse an APC presidential candidate in 2023 in order to take a political risk after seeing our destiny.

“Tinubu had partially kept his promises to the Rivers people even before he had office for up to three years.

“All of us are voting for President Tinubu in 2027; we are not participating in political parties.”

In the meantime, Wike has stated that he is keeping a careful eye on events within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter in Oyo State, emphasizing that his concern is rooted in his dedication to the party’s survival and power.

According to reports, Wike said those things on Monday while addressing the 105th PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

“Let me make it clear that I am interested in this party’s survival and success. Additionally, I am curious about everything that is going on in the Oyo State PDP. That’s all I’m interested in,” he said.

Wike also denied allegations that PDP members were being intimidated, especially considering recent court rulings in favor of his party’s division.

“Who will intimidate us to the end?” he uttered. By God’s favor, some of us are resistant to threats. The lawsuit has been dropped. Their only choice is to acknowledge the Caretaker Committee.

“His remarks seem to allude to the struggle for power inside the Oyo PDP after a group loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed annulled a parallel national convention in November 2025.

“Earlier, the Makinde-Bala group’s convention was declared invalid by the Federal High Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, which sided with the faction that formed a Caretaker Committee for the state.”
