In Benue State, a high level of security was observed on Wednesday as the All Progressives Congress (APC) began holding ward congresses in each of the state’s 23 local government districts.
New ward executives and delegates for the party’s next congresses are to be chosen through this activity.
According to Benjamin Omale, the party’s state chairman, Governor Hyacinth Alia arranged the security system to guarantee a smooth and orderly procedure.
He acknowledged that sufficient security guards had been stationed throughout the state to watch against disturbances and protect exercise participants.
According to Daily Trust, Auwalu Ishaye, the chairman of the Ward and Local Government Congress Committee, oversaw the distribution of crucial electoral materials at the Makurdi party secretariat as early as 7 am.
Prior to the exercise, Ishaye spoke to party officials and advised all parties involved to behave appropriately to ensure a smooth process. He also expressed trust in the people’s calm disposition.
Omale had earlier urged members of the electoral officers to maintain discipline and order, emphasizing the importance of rigorous adherence to rules set forth by the National Working Committee of the party.
To guarantee the congresses were held without any problems, he reaffirmed that the state administration has increased security in each of the 23 local government regions.
In addition to producing 10 delegates—five for the state congress and five for the local government congress—the ward congresses will yield 27 executive committee members in each ward, according to reports citing State Organising Secretary James Ornguga.
To oversee the procedure, he revealed, the national electoral committees of the party were sent to the state chapter from the national headquarters.
“The committees include a ward and local government congress committee, a screening committee, a screening appeal committee, and an appeal committee to handle disputes,” he said.
According to Ornguga, the state was previously confirmed by the screening committees as being prepared for the activity, which prompted the delivery of materials.
In addition to choosing five delegates for the state congress and an additional five for the local government congress, Ornguga was quoted by the media as stating that they will elect the ward executives today.
With single candidates for the majority of the slots, he said, there was less chance of fierce competition and expressed hope that the exercise would be peaceful.
With security bolstered and party loyalists remaining composed, Ornguga continued, the procedure was anticipated to smoothly introduce new ward systems throughout the state.
