Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, has promised voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that the commission will broadcast all election results in real time from polling places.
He confirmed that the commission has been using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BiVAS) to send election results in real time since the technology was implemented, and he added that the commission is prepared for the FCT elections that are set for Saturday, February 21, 2026.
In a conversation with reporters in Abuja, the INEC chief provided the guarantees following an evaluation of the readiness of three Area Councils: Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Bwari.
He stated his confidence in the Electoral Officers’ (EO) level of readiness and said he had no concerns that the commission would conduct a credible and acceptable election.
“I have confirmed the accuracy of the report they provided us. According to Kuje, they are 99.9% prepared for the election. According to Gwagwalada, 90.8% of people are prepared for this election. Additionally, Bwari claimed to be completely prepared for the election.
Accordingly, there ought to be no justification for any kind of misconduct. One hopes the election will be a great success.
And by our actions, not just our words, I’m confident we’ll start to improve the perception of our election.

Since the BVAS was implemented, the commission has been transmitting election results in real-time, according to Prof. Amupitan.

He emphasized that INEC will not lower its standards and that an election is considered successful if election materials are distributed on schedule and there is sufficient security on the ground to safeguard both voters and personnel.
Instructing the EOs on the procedure that will ensure a legitimate election, lower voter disinterest, and rebuild Nigerians’ faith in the system, he added
