The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) issue concerning its Ibadan elective convention was postponed indefinitely by the Court of Appeal in Ibadan on Wednesday.
The parties were also given permission by the appellate court to settle their disagreement peacefully outside of court.
The justices’ panel encouraged the parties to look into a peaceful resolution of the conflict during the procedures.
The court decided that the parties are free to come back to court for additional procedures if they are unable to come to an agreement.
In order to promote a peaceful settlement of the conflict, the justices also advised the parties’ attorneys to give their clients the appropriate advice.
The court also advised the attorneys to be aware of time, especially in light of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s recently issued electoral schedule.
Recall that the PDP election convention in Ibadan was recently declared unlawful by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.
Kabiru Turaki (SAN) was chosen by the convention to serve as the party’s national chairman.
A three-person panel of the appellate court ruled unanimously on Monday that the PDP’s appeal was without substance.
The panel upheld the decision made by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court of Nigeria on October 31 after resolving the four issues brought against the party.
All of the plaintiffs’ requested remedies, including preventing INEC from acknowledging the planned convention’s outcome, were granted by the lower court.
