According to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he still firmly believes in democracy.
He made this statement on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja while speaking to members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Thinking back on his political past, the President recalled that in the past, despite unfavorable political conditions, he had stayed in opposition without using threats.
Tinubu declared, “When it was against me years ago, I toed the line and stayed in opposition without threatening anyone but the military junta.”
Declaring that he is still a “die-hard democrat” who will keep defending Nigeria’s democratic system, he reiterated his dedication to democratic values, national unity, and the rule of law.
“I am happy that we are all democrats and that we all freely and deliberately participate in our democracy. The President declared, “Over the past 26 years, we have been at it selflessly.”
Tinubu emphasized that he remained steadfast in his belief in democracy, restating his own view.
“I firmly believe in democracy and am dedicated to a united Nigeria. “I will live and die with that philosophy and principle,” he declared.
Additionally, he emphasized the significance of upholding democratic institutions and the rule of law, stating that arguments should be settled by discussion and reasoned argument rather than coercion.
Before any democrat, the rule of law must be upheld. The minority will have their voice and may not get their way, while the majority will have their word and their way. Tinubu declared, “That is the sweetness and essence of democracy.”
In Nigeria’s multi-party democratic system, Tinubu continued to uphold his commitment to the platform he is a part of while respecting the rights of others.
“I have a voter registration. I’m going to stick to my platform whether or not I share it with you,” he declared.
