Before the general elections in 2027, social activist Aisha Yesufu has called on opposition leaders Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to implement pragmatic campaign tactics that tackle the economic realities that many Nigerians face.
In a post on her 𝕏 (previously Twitter) account on Thursday, Yesufu offered the advise, emphasizing that many residents have been compelled to put survival ahead of political rhetoric due to the nation’s growing economic crisis.
The activist claims that pervasive poverty has had a big impact on how people react to political ideas, making instant assistance and tangible support more significant to many voters.
She claimed that many Nigerians are finding it difficult to meet their basic necessities as a result of the current economic climate, especially given the rising cost of food.
Yesufu claimed that measures that, in her opinion, had deprived citizens of their financial power had made matters worse.
“In order for small tokens to matter to them, citizens were purposefully impoverished, having money taken from their pockets and food made expensive,” she said.
The activist also urged opposition parties to modify their campaign messaging so that it speaks to Nigerians’ daily hardships.
She asserts that in order to win over voters, political actors need to be aware of the pressing issues that citizens face.
“As the 2027 election approaches, the opposition needs to reach out to the public in a language that they can comprehend,” she continued.
In order to properly engage voters, Yesufu recommended that political campaigns integrate policy rhetoric with practical support.
