Ahead of the general elections in 2027, the Labour Party, led by Esther Nenadi Usman, has scheduled its presidential primary on May 23, 2026.
The Independent National Electoral Commission representatives were reportedly present at a National Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Tuesday when the decision was made.
On Wednesday, the meeting’s specifics were made public in a statement.
The party will submit its membership registration to INEC on April 15, 2026, in accordance with the schedule that has been agreed.
On May 15, 2026, the Senate, House of Representatives, State Houses of Assembly, and governorship primaries are set.
Additionally, the council supported the actions made by the party’s leadership, led by Darlington Nwochocha and Nenadi Usman, on forthcoming internal events.
These consist of state congresses on March 31, ward congresses on March 26, and local government congresses on March 28.
The anticipated date of the party’s national convention is April 11, 2026.
The council discussed current problems inside the party during the meeting, including the alleged takeover of its national secretariat by alleged thugs connected to certain members.
The council authorized the suspension of a number of members for misconduct, anti-party activities, and their purported involvement in the disturbance at the party office after reviewing the findings of a disciplinary committee headed by Salisu Mohammed.
Eneyi Zidougha, Hilda Doukubo, Lincolin Charles, Muhammad Sabitu Aliyu, Ogar Osim, Vincent Okwuokei, Casmir Uchenna, Simon Bamga, Abduljamid Suleiman, Emmanuel Agida, Auwala Ahmed, Ajibade Samson, Alexander Ombugu, Elizabeth Ativie, Godwin Jioke, Airen Igbinedion, Osas Frank, Kennedy Ahanotu, Ayidele Olurunfemi, B. Arabanbi, Umar Faruk Ibrahim, Auwal Tafoki, and Obiora Ifoh are among those impacted.
In order to reach members in rural areas, the council also endorsed the continuous updating of the party’s membership registration through both digital and physical techniques.
