Timi Frank, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Publicity Secretary, has denounced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s trip to the UK.
In a statement released on Thursday, he claimed that the President’s travel is insensitive and insulting given the terrible attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State.
His remarks were made on Wednesday at the Quadrangle at Windsor Castle in Windsor, where President Tinubu and First Lady Remi Tinubu were hosted by King Charles III and other UK royals.
Frank responded by accusing the UK government of being “complicit” in Nigeria’s problems and said that the visit’s timing—just 24 hours after the alleged killings—showed a lack of compassion for Nigerians who were grieving.
How President Tinubu was able to fly within 24 hours after people were slain is beyond me.
“He and his entourage of ministers and top security officials decided to go on a state visit, celebrating and drinking champagne, while Nigerians are dying, at a time when the entire world is expressing concern over the tragedy in Nigeria,” Frank stated.
He said that the trip had brought “huge disgrace and embarrassment” for the nation, pointing out that while government leaders were participating in ceremonial festivities overseas, locals were still in mourning for victims of violence.
He claims that the President’s behavior “clearly shows he does not value Nigerians, particularly those in the North.”
This behavior demonstrates his lack of concern and goes beyond simple insensitivity. Frank said, “He has essentially left the people to their fate.”
The UK is celebrating Nigeria’s collapse rather than its progress.
“Nigerians have nothing to gain from this visit. Frank said, “It is about elevating and legitimizing a leader whose record is widely questioned.”
