According to reports, after an unsuccessful infiltration attempt in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Nigerian Army troops neutralized Abou Ameer, a senior commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
The insurgent leader was killed during the operation along with a number of fighters, according to security sources.
Ameer personally commanded the militants in the assault on a military unit, according to the counter-insurgency newspaper Zagazola Makama.
He was reportedly selected as Pulka’s Ameer (Qaid) after his predecessor, Modu Kunduli, was killed in Borno State’s Bama Local Government Area.
According to sources who spoke with Makama, the militants suffered heavy casualties as a result of the army’ fierce opposition.
According to the report, “the terrorists came under heavy fire from the well-coordinated troops and were repelled, resulting in significant casualties on their side.”
Several senior ISWAP leaders were shot during the engagement, according to the report.
Saleh Madagali, Jundulla, and Abu Ali Jango are allegedly among the injured.
Weapons and intelligence materials were reportedly recovered from the area by troops, suggesting persistent pressure on insurgent networks in the Northeast.

The most recent operation takes place just days after troops and the Nigerian Air Force allegedly killed at least 61 ISWAP fighters during an unsuccessful infiltration attempt in Malam Fatori, Abadam Local Government Area, Borno State.
