Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani Umar, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has refuted claims that he was held and arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to reports, Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, claimed in a post on 𝕏 that Umar was detained not long after being hosted in Kaduna last Sunday.
In an online video that went viral, Umar refuted the allegations, claiming that he was merely asked to be questioned before being freed.
The preacher urged supporters and Kaduna State citizens to maintain composure and refrain from doing any activities that would disturb the state’s peace, saying he completely cooperated with security personnel.
“I am speaking today to correct the false report that is circulating,” he stated. The DSS did not take me into custody. They invited me to be questioned. After giving my complete cooperation, I was let go. I’m well, free, and secure.
“I want to urge all of our supporters and Kaduna State residents to maintain their composure, peace, and compliance with the law. Nobody has the right to enforce the law. In the name of loyalty, no one should cause chaos.
Speaking about Nasir El-Rufai’s ordeal as the former governor of Kaduna State, the ADC chieftain also asked the public to be patient and let the legal system work.
He also urged people who were unhappy with the current political system to use democratic channels to seek change.
“To anyone unhappy with the current system, the answer is very simple: register, vote, and choose better leadership when the time comes,” he continued.
“Thank you all, and may Allah protect our dear state, Kaduna State,” he continued.
