A woman who had just returned from the UK to attend a wedding in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was killed in a terrible car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, a spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), reportedly stated in a statement on Tuesday that the collision happened on Monday night close to the Christopher University axis of the motorway.
According to Akinbiyi, the deceased was traveling in a white Toyota Camry with two other people when it struck a moving truck.
He claims that the woman died as a result of the crash’s impact, while the other two passengers—a man and a woman—were hurt.
“A fatal road traffic accident occurred at the Christopher University section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 17:48 hours on March 23,” he stated.
Eyewitnesses said that the Camry’s driver crashed into a moving truck while driving too fast.
“A man and two females were among the three individuals involved. The two females were injured, and one female died.
The two female occupants had recently arrived from the United Kingdom and were traveling to Abeokuta for a wedding ceremony at the time of the tragedy, according to preliminary findings, the TRACE spokeswoman added.
According to Akinbiyi, the injured victims were sent to both Redeemed Hospital and Famobis Hospital for treatment, while the deceased’s remains were placed in the Redeemed Hospital mortuary.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the two female casualties were on their way from Lagos to Abeokuta, Ogun State, to attend a wedding ceremony after they had just arrived from the United Kingdom,” he continued.
“The deceased has been placed in the Redeemed Hospital morgue, while the injured passengers were taken to Famobis Hospital and Redeemed Hospital.”
“Drivers are once again cautioned to avoid excessive speed in view of its attendant consequences, while TRACE expresses sympathy to the families of the deceased and injured.”
