Governor Ademola Adeleke and the ruling Accord have been under fire from the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Osun State for allegedly politicizing security issues in the state.
The Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, signed the party’s press release on Thursday, which stated that all governmental levels should continue to prioritize protecting people and property.
The statement criticized the Accord’s recent criticism of local governments’ attempts to assist security authorities.
The APC claims that it was “uncalled for, frivolous, and ill-motivated” to punish local council chairmen for giving the police working vehicles.
The party said that the council executives, who it described as having been legally reinstated, fulfilled their duties by helping security services fight crime.
Olabisi stated, “It is unexpected that a ruling party would denounce initiatives meant to bolster security operations in the state.”
The APC contended that the council chairmen’s move was meant to improve policing capabilities and guarantee more protection for Osun State’s citizens.
The statement also implied that the Accord Party’s criticism was due to its “discomfort with the exposure of alleged governance shortcomings.”
The statement stated, “We note that the Accord Party’s concern is not about the policy itself but rather that it highlights gaps in the current administration’s priorities.”
The APC maintained that political differences should not affect security, highlighting the need for teamwork to effectively combat crime.
It further said that until all legal procedures pertaining to their tenure were completed, the reinstated council officials continued to be legally recognized.
Olabisi declared, “Until all judicial processes, including those at the Supreme Court, are concluded, the council executives remain the duly elected representatives.”
Instead of fighting over programs meant to assist law enforcement, the party asked the state administration and political players to concentrate on bolstering security.
In a statement released on Sunday, Pastor Victor Akande, the chairman of the Accord, advised the Osun State Police Command not to accept car contributions from the All Progressives Congress (APC) council chairmen who were fired by the court.
Additionally, Pastor Akande cautioned that these donations were the proceeds of illegal activity that would implicate law enforcement.
Additionally, the party informed the public that the illegal APC chairmen had once more embezzled money from the Osun local government to buy cars that would be donated to the police force.
The group urged the Inspector-General of Police to put an end to what it called a blatant attempt to further undermine the police force by using illicit funds obtained via criminal activity.
Additionally, it instructed the IGP to instruct the Osun Police Command not to accept such offers, pointing out that the matter is already before many courts and that some UBA high officials are on trial for allegedly embezzling Osun local government funds.
