At the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, tragedy struck when Seyi Simon, a 25-year-old 300-level student, was reportedly fatally stabbed at a freshmen’s celebration for just enrolled students.
It was discovered that the incident happened at the institution’s hall in Kontagora, Niger State, on Saturday night.
According to Daily Trust, sources said that the deadly incident occurred after the deceased and Jafar Musa, an 18-year-old suspect, got into a fight.
The suspect was allegedly a member of the institution’s Man O’ War regiment.
According to a student who spoke on condition of anonymity, the fight started out as a small argument before turning violent.
The insider told that “it started as a misunderstanding but later turned into a fight between the two.”
Wasiu Abiodun, the Niger State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the event and said that the victim was stabbed by the suspect during the altercation.
He stated, “On April 5, 2026, at approximately 1:40 a.m., a report was received at ‘A’ Division Kontagora that a misunderstanding occurred between one Jafar Musa, 18, of the Angwan-Gwari area of Kontagora, and one Seyi Simon, 25, a student of the institution, during a party organized by students for newly admitted students at the school hall.”
According to Abiodun, the injured student was transported right away to the General Hospital in Kontagora for treatment, but upon arrival, it was determined that he was dead.
Jafar Musa used a dagger to stab the pupil during the altercation. After being sent to the General Hospital in Kontagora, the person was pronounced deceased. He continued, “The suspect has been taken into custody and is presently being investigated.”
According to the police spokeswoman, the suspect is being held while the incident’s circumstances are being investigated.
According to reports, the murder has caused the university community to go into grief, and in order to stop it from happening again, appeals have been made for increased security and more stringent rules at student parties.
