Suspected armed bandits attacked a police vehicle in Katsina State and stole their service weapons, killing two police officers.
Police sources revealed that the event happened on April 7, 2026, at approximately 5:50 p.m. in Sabon Garin Garu hamlet in the state’s Musawa Local Government Area, according to a post on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Muhammadu, a well-known bandit commander, was allegedly connected to the attackers, who were apparently in huge numbers and riding on roughly thirty motorcycles.
Five members of the Police Mobile Force (27 PMF) were reportedly being transported from Zamfara State through Katsina State when the criminals ambushed their vehicle.
The attackers were forced to retreat after a gunfight broke out as a result of police tactical teams, comprising patrol units and neighborhood watch organizations, responding quickly.
During the gunfight, three cops were saved unharmed.
However, the attack claimed the lives of two officers. They were recognized as PC Abdulaziz Musa and Sgt. Bilyaminu Babangida.
A riot gunner and the officers’ service guns were also taken away by the attackers.
According to the report, “the attackers also carted away a riot gunner and the officers’ service rifles.”
Later, police reinforcements from Dutsinma, Kankia, Matazu, and Kankara were sent in to block escape routes, and cordon-and-search operations are still in progress to locate the suspects and retrieve the pilfered weapons.
Security personnel reportedly increased their attempts to bring peace back to the region and stop more attacks along the axis.
