Due to unpaid salaries, the UNIJOS chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called an indefinite strike.
According to reports, the decision was made on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, following complaints from academics on their failure to get their March income and the lack of the Earned Academic Allowance.
All members were instructed by the union to abstain from official meetings, lectures, and exams as of right now.
The branch leadership clarified that the action was approved by the union’s local congress and National Executive Council.
The union claims that members had been waiting for a while in the hopes that the problem would be fixed, but nothing had changed.
The statement stated, “After due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, the conduct of exams, and statutory meetings, as our salary for the month of March 2026 is yet to be paid despite our patience.”
The academics stated that since the bursary department had previously finished its portion, the results demonstrated that the delay did not originate from within the university.
The issue was connected to the Federation’s Office of the Accountant General, which they hold accountable for the monies’ delayed release.
The union also cautioned that because members are getting weary of constant delays, the situation may have an impact on systemic harmony. It further stated that its monitoring team would start working to guarantee that every lecturer complies completely with the strike order.
