Niger APC Scraps Guber Zoning, Sparks Fresh Political Maneuvering Ahead of 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) formally abandoned its long-standing zoning structure for the governorship, paving the way for a broader struggle in the 2027 elections, which is drastically changing Niger State’s political environment.

In a statement dated April 3, 2026, and signed by State Publicity Secretary Musa D. Sarkinkaji, the party claimed that the system is only a political convention because zoning is not recognized as legally binding by either the Nigerian Constitution or the party’s.
