April 14 Convention: ADC Anticipates 3,000 Delegates

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says that more than 3,000 delegates are expected to come to its national convention in Abuja on April 14. The party is still getting ready for the event, even though it has been hard to find the right venues.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, told Punch that the government was making it hard for them to use Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome for the event.

Abdullahi said that the party was hoping that thousands of delegates from all over the country would come to the convention.

More than 3,000 delegates are expected to come to the national convention. He said, “So, we are expecting more than 3,000 delegates for the ADC national convention.”

He said that the convention would now be held at the Rainbow Hotel in Abuja, even though there were problems.

“Our party leaders, supporters, and members from all over the country will come together for a free, fair, and credible national convention.” He also said that the convention would take place on April 14 at the Rainbow Hotel in Abuja.

The ADC spokesperson said that the authorities had not listened to the party’s request to use Eagle Square, which is a place that political parties usually use for big events.

“We wrote letters asking to use Eagle Square. They haven’t replied to our letter yet. Abdullahi said, “They just ignore us.”

He also said that the party later went to the management of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, where the Peoples Democratic Party had its convention before, but was told that there was a cycling championship planned for the venue.

“They were working with us until they suddenly told us that there was going to be a cycling championship at the venue,” he said.

Abdullahi called the event part of what he called a “assault on opposition leaders and their political parties.”

“Is one party bigger than the other?” Yes, we are a political party that is against the government. “But does the APC own Eagle Square?” he asked.

Ward, State Congresses Peaceful, says ADC
Abdullahi also said in a different statement that the party’s ward and state congresses went off without a hitch all over the country.

He congratulated the new state executives and chairmen and said the election showed that the party was committed to internal democracy.

He said, “These elections, which were held according to the law and the party’s constitution, show the ADC’s ongoing commitment to internal democracy, openness, and the rule of law.”

He also said that the National Working Committee would let people know when the new officials would be sworn in, which would be on May 12, 2026, or later.

Party Sends Out List of Convention Committee Members
The ADC has also put out new lists of its convention committee and subcommittees as part of getting ready for the national convention.

The new list, which was signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, named Liyel Imoke, the former governor of Cross River State, as the chairman of the National Convention Central Coordination Committee. Aminu Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State, was named as the deputy.

Since 2025, when the ADC was chosen as a coalition platform and a new National Working Committee was formed with former Senate President David Mark at the helm, the party has been in a long leadership crisis.

The fight started because of former chairman Ralph Nwosu’s time in office and his deputy Nafiu Bala Gombe’s claims to be acting chairman.

The crisis has led to a number of legal fights and made people worry about how ready the party is for the 2027 general elections.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also taken key ADC leaders, such as Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, off its official records. This has made the disagreement even worse.
