Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), explained on Tuesday why the party lost the elections for governor of Anambra State and for the Federal Capital Territory area council.
Reports say that Aregbesola spoke at the party’s national convention, which is still going on.
The former governor of Osun State said that the party didn’t do well in the elections for a number of reasons.
Aregbesola said, “Our party took part in the 2025 Anambra State and February 26 FCT local government elections.”
“We didn’t win for a number of reasons, including the fact that our opponents used their position of power, made money off of the election process, and abused their power as state officials.”
Aregbesola also talked about problems within the party, such as not having enough money and not being well-organized.
He said, “We had problems with funding and our structure wasn’t ready.”
Aregbesola said that even though the party had some problems, they had learned important lessons from the elections and were getting ready for future ones.
“We have learned from these lessons, though, and are ready for the upcoming elections for governor in Ekiti and Osun states,” he said.
It was remembered that the APC won five of the six seats in the FCT Area Council elections, leaving the last seat to the PDP.
