The All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders at the national level are hopeful that they will win back Osun State in the upcoming 2026 governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set the election date for August 8, according to reports.
In the 2022 election, Ademola Adeleke, the current governor, beat Gboyega Oyetola, the former governor of the APC.
Adeleke switched parties from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party after there was a problem within the PDP. He is now running for a second term.
People are worried about the party’s lack of grassroots support in the state, which some say could hurt his chances.
The upcoming election is likely to be very competitive, with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) joining the race and turning it into a three-horse race.
Rauf Aregbesola, the party’s National Secretary, is still an important political figure in Osun politics.
Ajibola Basiru, the APC’s National Secretary, said during a nationwide media chat on Wednesday that the election would be very competitive.
“Osun’s election is going to be hard. He said, “As far as it may be, we’re very sure that setting up a grassroots campaign is part of the strategy we’re using.”
Basiru said that the party had started to get its structures ready all over the state, including federal constituencies, senatorial districts, and important groups.
“While I was in Osun, I was able to meet with the federal constituency structure, the senatorial campaign structure, and of course the state campaign structure. He said, “I was also able to meet with the women and student groups that were campaigning for our party.”
The APC’s national secretary also said that the party would use data to help them win.
He said, “We believe in a data-driven process to make sure we win that election, without going into too much detail about strategy.”
