Reuben Abati, a veteran journalist and former presidential media aide, has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his recent comments about former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Abati said on Arise News on Friday that it is rude and unfair for Atiku to call Jonathan inexperienced.
It was remembered that Atiku said in a TV interview on Wednesday that Goodluck Jonathan, the former president, was a good man but not very experienced.
Atiku says that Jonathan’s lack of experience was a big reason why he failed as president and lost the 2015 presidential election.
He said, “I know Goodluck Jonathan very well. He is a good young man, but he is also inexperienced, which is why he couldn’t run the country well.”
He made the case for experienced and capable leadership in Nigeria and why people like him should be elected to office.
In response to Atiku’s statement, Abati made fun of the former Vice President by saying that Jonathan has been president for thirty years, a position that Atiku has been trying to get for thirty years.
“I think it’s rude and condescending.” Atiku never got to be president of this country, but Jonathan did. Thirty years after he first wanted to get there, he is still trying to get there. And calling a former president a man who isn’t experienced is a sign of arrogance.
Abati said, “No matter what happens in the 2027 elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar still wants to become what former President Jonathan has already done and more after he had been in that position.”
