Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has said that Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, does not have what it takes to bring Rivers State to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Wike said this to reporters in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, on Friday.
He talked about past elections in Rivers state where Amaechi, despite his power and roles in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), did not win.
The minister also talked about the elections in 2015 and 2019. He said that even with federal support as Director-General of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential campaign, the APC did not do well in the state.
He said that even though he used what he called “federal might” in past elections, he still won the governorship elections in the state. He said that the state is still politically resistant to such projections.
“Are we saying today that if there is an election in Rivers state today, Rotimi Amaechi will give Rivers state to ADC?
“Don’t forget that he was a governor. He was in the APC when I ran for governor. Who beat him? He was the campaign’s DG at that time.
He said, “Remember that in 2019, when I was running for my second term, he was the minister of transportation and the DG of Buhari’s campaign.”
Wike also asked about ADC’s chances nationally, saying that David Mark, the party’s national chairman and former Senate President, can’t win Benue, his home state.
He said, “For example, in Benue, the former senate president, who was also the party’s chairman, had a daughter who won under the APC but was in the PDP.”
