There have been separate road accidents in Edo and Taraba states that have killed 19 people and hurt a lot of others.
In Edo State, 12 people died and 14 others were hurt in a different crash over the weekend at the Egono community along the Auchi–Ewu–Benin road.
A speeding truck carrying people and goods tried to pass another vehicle in a dangerous way, lost control, and flipped over.
Patricia Onwochei, the Edo FRSC spokesperson, told Daily Trust that the event happened.
She said that the accident was caused by someone passing the wrong way and that one victim had been buried while 11 others were taken to the St. Lazarus Hospital mortuary.
Seven people died in a crash on Tuesday at around 4:40 p.m. in the Garbabi area of Gashaka Local Government Area. Two of the dead were minors and two were women.
The accident happened when a commercial vehicle with 11 passengers was going from Bali to Serti, the capital of Gashaka LGA.
Haruna Lukman, an official of the Nigeria Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) in Bali, said that the vehicle crashed head-on with an oncoming trailer while going around a sharp bend near Kabarin Baturi village along the Bali–Serti road.
He said that all of the victims died right away. He also said that NARTO officials, the police, and good Samaritans took the dead and hurt people to Bali General Hospital.
Lukman said that the vehicle was meant to carry six people, but it often had nine because of rising gas prices and claims of extortion by security agents.
