Peter Obi, who used to be the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, met with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan on Tuesday behind closed doors.
It was learned that the meeting took place at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Ibadan, less than 72 hours after a high-level opposition summit in the state capital.
The summit brought together important political figures and stakeholders from all over the country as part of ongoing efforts to form a coalition before the 2027 general elections.
A source who talked to Vanguard about the meeting said that it was part of a larger set of talks among opposition leaders, even though the official agenda was not made public.
The source says that both politicians were having “strategic political consultations” to strengthen the opposition and look into possible alliances.
This meeting also comes soon after Obi got engaged to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
After meeting with Jonathan, Obi said that his visit to the former President is directly related to getting ready for the 2027 general election.
The former Governor of Anambra State said after the visit that he went to see Jonathan to talk about the 2027 general elections in Nigeria’s best interest.
He added that their discussions focused on how to reposition Nigeria and on how all leaders can come together to make the country better.
Obi said that the 2027 elections should not be seen as just another political event, but as a chance to start over in the country.
