Deputy Speaker of Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, has explained why he formally withdrew from the race to pick the All Progressives Congress ticket for the South Borno Senatorial district ahead of the 2027 general election.
His aide, Bilyaminu Umar Ngulde, said in a statement Wednesday that his decision to withdraw from the race was based on several appeals by APC stakeholders in Borno South.
“I am writing to formally inform you that after wide consultations, our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has nominated Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume to fly the party’s flag in the next 2027 general election.
After these wide consultations, the party reached out to Honourable Abdullahi Musa Askira and asked him to step down for the incumbent senator, Ali Ndume. But in the interest of party loyalty and collective progress, the Honorable Abdullahi Musa Askira has been kind enough to oblige.
He therefore urges all his supporters throughout Askira-Uba and the entire Southern Senatorial District to give their 100% support to Senator Ndume. He also appealed for peace, unity, understanding and common commitment to the development of Southern Borno,” he said.
The move was a big boost for the incumbent senator, Ali Ndume, to return to the red chambers for the fifth time.
