Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the immediate past Minister of Foreign Affairs, has formally thrown his hat into the ring for the Bauchi State governorship race after acquiring the All Progressives Congress (APC) expression of interest and nomination forms on Wednesday.

Tuggar addressed journalists after picking the N50 million forms, where he listed the priority areas for his proposed administration including insecurity and economic revival through agriculture ad.

“Tackling the security issues and optimizing the agricultural resources of the state will be key to enhancing livelihoods across the state of Bauchi,” he said.

“The challenge of insecurity and the need to properly utilise our farmland will be the top priorities. “We have huge land resources in Bauchi, and we must structure them in a way that subsistence farmers and pastoralists can benefit and also lift people out of poverty,” he said.

Tuggar said fair access to land must be put in place to avoid economic imbalances, warning against a system where few have resources at the expense of the majority.

On the mode of the party’s primary election, the aspirant said he would accept either direct primaries or consensus arrangements provided the process is transparent and credible.

“I’m okay with whatever the party decides, as long as it’s fair. “The key is to produce honest candidates who have the support of the people,’ he said.

Tuggar had resigned his ministerial post on March 30, 2026 in compliance with a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which mandated that political appointees seeking elective offices should resign their posts.

Following his exit, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu was appointed to lead the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a ministry she once served as Minister of State.
