Isah Ambarura, a member of the House of Representatives, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Ambarura, who represents Illela/Gwadabawa Federal Constituency of Sokoto State, is Deputy Chairman House Committee on Rules and Business.

Deputy Speaker of the House, Benjamin Kalu read his defection notice during plenary on Wednesday.

Ambarura said in his letter that he left the APC after wide consultations with his constituents and political associates.

He said his move to the ADC would enhance his ability to serve the people of Illela/Gwadabawa Federal Constituency.

“My decision on this was informed by circumstances beyond my control within APC, hence compelled me to defect respectively,” he said.

Also, the lawmaker representing Bade/Jakusko Federal Constituency of Yobe State, Jakduwa Kaikuku, defected to the APC from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Kaikuku attributed his departure to the “unresolved PDP leadership crisis.”

He termed the APC a “stronger and fairer” platform for political participation and service delivery.

The House has seen a slew of members switching parties since the start of the year ahead of the 2027 general elections.

On Tuesday, Muhammed Jajere representing Fika/Fune Federal Constituency of Yobe State, moved from the PDP to APC.

Last week, four Kano lawmakers, Sani Wakili of Minjibir/Ungogo Federal Constituency, Muktar Zakari of Tarauni Federal Constituency, Umar Datti of Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam Federal Constituency and Abdulhakeem Ado of Wudil/Garko Federal Constituency defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party to the ADC.

Similarly, Thaddeus Attah of Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, Lagos; Usman Zubairu of Birnin Gwari/Giwa Federal Constituency, Kaduna; and Sani Noma of Argungu/Augie Federal Constituency, Kebbi also defected from their former parties to the ADC.
