Hon. Sani Aliyu Danlami, a member of the House of Representatives, has lost his attempt to get the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the 2027 election in Katsina Central Federal Constituency.

Danlami, who is in his second term at the Green Chamber was beaten after days of intense consultations among party stakeholders and powerful figures.

Stakeholders have reportedly agreed to settle for Abba Mangal, son of billionaire businessman, Dahiru Mangal as the party’s flag bearer.

The outcome signifies a major political shift in the constituency, given Danlami’s incumbency and his existing support at the grassroots.

The decision followed extensive negotiations to reach a consensus acceptable to key stakeholders, Daily Trust reported party insiders said.

Political circles are reacting to the emergence of a legal practitioner, Abba Mangal, who had not publicly declared interest in the race before the decision, Naija News reports.

Reacting to the development, Danlami accepted the outcome of the consensus process and appealed to his supporters to remain peaceful.

In a statement, the lawmaker urged party faithful to eschew violence and prioritize unity.

He emphasised on the need to maintain stability within the party and the state irrespective of the outcome of the exercise.

Sources close to the process said the consensus process spanned two days, Tuesday to Thursday, and involved several rounds of talks between aspirants and their backers.

The contest was keenly fought as several big names lobbied hard for the ticket, the sources said.

Among those said to have jostled for the position are Lawal Amadu Joka, a former Aide-de-Camp to ex-governor Aminu Bello Masari; Haruna Maiwada; Ibrahim Ali Guguwa; Sani Danlami; and Hon. Abdurashid Abba.

Dahiru Mangal is generally considered a strong force in the political terrain of Katsina, for over 20 years.

Political involvement started with his backing of the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s successful re-election as governor in 2003.

He is since believed to have played a key role in shaping major political appointments and election results across the state.

But Abba Mangal is the first member of his immediate family to run for elective office.
