Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, on Friday, cautioned political actors against complacency as the 2027 general elections approach, saying it would be wrong to expect an easy contest.
The governor gave the warning while receiving his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to contest for re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Government House, Katsina.
The submission of the forms was said to have been done by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Murtala Aliyu Kankia, under a consensus arrangement adopted by the party in the state.
Radda said that while the process of consensus had showed unity, they needed to be careful and keep the foot on the pedal while speaking to party stakeholders.
“This is not the time to relax, anyone who thinks there will be no challenges in the coming elections is just fooling himself,” the governor said.
He warned that complacency could cost the party at the polls, while emphasising the need for political actors to be alert and proactive.
The governor said the adoption of consensus candidacy was a demonstration of political maturity and unity among members of the party in the state.
But he said that this unity has to be more than just internal agreements, and it has to be translated into a stronger engagement with the electorate.
Radda urged the candidates that emerged from the consensus process to go back to their constituencies, reconcile with aggrieved aspirants and build trust at the grass root.
Winning elections still depends on continuous engagement with the electorate, he said.
The governor also called on party faithful to be inclusive and responsive to the needs of the people.
To win elections, you have to reconnect with your constituents and deal with their concerns,” he said.
Radda also congratulated the members of the consensus committees for a smooth and credible process, saying their efforts had helped to strengthen unity in the party.
Earlier, the APC National Legal Adviser, Murtala Aliyu Kankia, said that the distribution of nomination forms was done within an agreed framework that maintained orderliness within the party.
“We have brought and circulated the forms in a peaceful and friendly environment unlike some states where it is chaos,” he said.
“We have received reports from Katsina and Funtua senatorial zones and we are waiting for that of Daura zone,” Kankia said.
