The African Democratic Congress (ADC) boss, Kenneth Okonkwo, said he had not taken the former presidential candidate Peter Obi serious or relevant since he defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Okonkwo stated this in an interview on ARISE Television, adding that the party would not be affected by the defection of Peter Obi.

“Peter Obi has changed political parties three times in the last six months. If there was no restriction in the Electoral Act, he would have still defected to another party,” Okonkwo said.

The Nollywood actor cum politician was emphatic that Peter Obi’s defection will not affect ADC’s victory at the 2027 presidential election.

“We are alive, kicking as we speak and we are going to form the next government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because we will win the 2027 election. “The coalition is fine, going smoothly and we shall get through.

“You will recall that I once said that I will not speak for a man whose position on important national issues I do not know. I said that I will not speak for a man who, even if he wins and you give him your votes, does not have the capacity to secure his own victory. So the matter of saying whether the coalition will be affected or not, it will not be affected in any way.

“Peter Obi had three party switches in six months; Ever since he defected to NDC I have not taken it serious or relevant because by December 30th he was a member of Labour Party, December 1st he was a member of ADC; and by May 3rd he is a member of NDC.

“I am sure if it were not for the restriction in the Electoral Act, before the close of registration or membership time, he would be a member of another party.

That is his nature but changing parties does not question your ability, competence or character. That’s the reason you give for leaving the party. “I don’t have a problem with David Mark, meaning I don’t have a problem with ADC, I don’t have a problem with Atiku, meaning I don’t have a problem with the aspirants,” Peter Obi said.

ADC is facing challenges, legal and otherwise and I like to run away where there is peace. He said I don’t like challenges And now I ask how can this same man ask Nigerians to trust the country in his care when Nigeria is the most challenged country in the world today?”
