The senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, said that the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is contesting for the presidency at the wrong time.
Mr Nwebonyi said this on Wednesday in a live interview on Channels Television’s programme ‘Politics Today’.
He was speaking on the possibility of an Igbo man becoming the president and the general elections of next year.
“Peter Obi is coming at the wrong time. If you listened carefully and with keen interest on the enumeration I made few minutes ago, you will agree with me that it goes without saying that President Tinubu and other APC candidates will win in South East come 2027 general election.
“The reasons are tied. I said it here. They are seeing it, the people in Igbo. We have taken our stand and it is very clear that the political permutation as it is now does not favour an Igbo man to be president of Nigeria, even if our son comes to contest.
“We have to tell ourselves the truth, we can’t be deceived all the time. “We know the best time to strike to get the number one seat and all Nigerians will support us,” the lawmaker said.
