Youth Rights Campaign Condemns DSS Invitation, Accuses Nursing School CEO of Using Security to Silence Dissent
By Naomisophyblog
The DSS Enugu Command has invited Francis Nwapa, Socialist Activist and Human Rights Advocate to appear before them on Tuesday, 19th August, over the intervention of the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC) against the illegal expulsion of a student nurse from Ezzy International College of Nursing Science, Enugu.
YRC has made it clear to the DSS that if my presence is truly necessary, they should either transfer the invitation to their Lagos office where I reside or provide flight arrangements to Enugu.
Apparently, the CEO of the school, Dr. Gloria Bertram Okoli, has now chosen to deploy the DSS as a tool to silence dissent and crush every voice speaking out against administrative authoritarianism, victimisation and repression within the institution.
It is disgraceful that while Nigeria is being ravaged by insecurity, killings, banditry and armed groups, the DSS is being reduced to an instrument for intimidating students, activists and all those who challenge injustice and abuse of power.
Let this be clear: intimidation will not silence us. Repression will not break us. YRC will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with oppressed students, workers and poor Nigerians resisting exploitation, victimisation and authoritarian attacks on democratic rights.
