Saleh Mamman, the former Minister of Power, was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after he was found guilty and sentenced by the Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly embezzling money while in office.

Mamman was taken into custody on Tuesday at around 3:30 a.m., according to Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the EFCC.

He was allegedly arrested in Kaduna with two others who were allegedly protecting him from the police.

The anti-graft agency is also looking into the house where the arrest occurred.

He held the position as Minister of Power from August 2019 till September 2021.

Following his nomination and Senate confirmation, President Muhammadu Buhari swore him in on August 21, 2019.

Abubakar Aliyu, Minister of State for Works and Housing, took Mamman’s place when Buhari fired him on September 1, 2021.

Saleh was found guilty of fraud and money laundering involving more than 33.8 billion naira ($24.7 million) in May 2026 and given a 75-year prison sentence by the Federal High Court of Nigeria.
