After a terrorist attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State, early on May 8, 2026, the Nigeria Police offered prayers for the seventeen police officers who lost their lives.
It was said that while valiantly fending off the attack, a number of heroic Nigerian Army soldiers also gave their lives.
Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu said during the prayers that their sacrifice is the pinnacle of patriotism and national responsibility.
Disu pointed out that hundreds of members of the Nigeria Police Force, especially the Police Mobile Force, are still stationed throughout the Northeast in cooperative operations with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, fighting violent extremism and terrorism on a daily basis.
“Our officers continue to risk their lives, frequently in very challenging circumstances, so that every Nigerian family can sleep at night with a measure of safety and peace,” he stated.
“We want every Nigerian to feel and know in their hearts that there are men and women in uniform who wake up every morning with one purpose: to serve, to protect, and to give everything when called upon,” he stated.
“Every fallen officer has a family left behind, a future cut short, and a nation that owes them an incalculable debt of gratitude.” We sincerely promise that their sacrifices will never be forgotten and that their deaths will not be in vain.
