The Labour Party (LP) has selected a former council boss, Hon. Juliana Obetta Princess as its deputy governorship candidate for the upcoming Benue State governorship election.
This was just 48 hours after the party had elected its governorship candidate, Mathias Byuan.
Hon Obetta, a grassroots politician, was a former executive chairman of Okpokwu LGA of the state, and has carved a career in community development and political mobilisation.
She has a strong presence in grassroots politics and community engagement and served in president Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organization..
Speaking during the unveiling of the deputy governorship candidate in Makurdi at the party’s secretariat along Otukpo road, Byuan said the candidate was unanimously elected by party members in the state.
Byuan said “We have consulted widely with party stakeholders across the state and today, they have unanimously elected Mrs Julie Obetta as the first female governorship candidate who by the grace of God, come 2027 will be the first female deputy governor of Benue State.”
The governorship candidate described the choice of the deputy governorship candidate as part of the party’s program to have women in the governance in 2027.
Byuan promised that if given the mandate, the party would turn the state from civil service to industrial state.
Hon Obetta, while reacting, said she was humbled by the honour of being the first female deputy governorship candidate of the party and promised to mobilise Benue women who are in large numbers to vote for the party.
