The Labour Party (LP) has slated June 11 for a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) to ratify the results of its recently concluded primary elections.
The party said the meeting would also approve the submission of its candidates for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), reports said.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
The NEC meeting was held in line with Article 28 of the party’s 2026 Constitution, Asogwa said.
He said statutory NEC members, candidates from the primaries, party organs, INEC representatives, members of the media and other stakeholders are expected to attend.
“The meeting is expected to ratify the results of the party’s primary elections conducted across the country and approve the submission of candidates that emerged from the exercise to INEC in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution,” he said.
Certificates of Return will also be issued to successful candidates after the NEC ratifies the primary results, the party added.
“The party also wishes to inform all successful candidates from the primaries that the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates for the offices of President, Governor, Senate and House of Representatives shall commence immediately after the ratification of the primary election results by the NEC,” Asogwa said.
Asogwa said the meeting was a milestone in the LP’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
It would be the first NEC meeting since the party’s recent national convention and the emergence of candidates for the polls, he said.
“The Labour Party also wishes to reiterate that this meeting is of strategic importance to the party’s overall preparations and mobilisation efforts ahead of the forthcoming elections, being the first NEC meeting following its recent successful National Convention and the nomination of candidates for the 2027 general elections,” the statement concluded.
