Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reacted to attacks on his administration after his victory in the re-election.

He was quoted to have said that elections were won by performance and direct engagement with the people and not by commenting on social media, Oyebanji who spoke on Sunday after being re-elected for a second term in office said.

“There are no polling units in social media,” Oyebanji added.

He said governance was like farming, where those who sowed hard work would get to harvest.

The tiller of the ground, the farmer, does not interfere on the day of harvest. “There are some people who have done nothing and are busy on social media,” he said.

Those who failed to connect with the people took to the media to attack and criticise online, Oyebanji said.

“If you do a good job, people will vote for you. But if you have nothing to say except to go to media houses and give interviews and tell lies on government, stay on social media whipping sentiments. Yesterday was their day of reckoning,” he added.

Oyebanji had won all the 16 local government areas in the June 20 governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said he scored 319,224 votes to beat Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who got 40,543 votes.

In third place was Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with 12,872 votes.

INEC said 384,940 voters were accredited, 375,777 votes were valid and 6,332 were rejected.
