The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State has received a major political boost following the defection of over 2,000 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) to the party.
The defectors formally joined the PDP on Sunday at a meeting convened by Dukku chapter of Pantami Youth Support to reaffirm their support for the 2027 governorship aspiration of Professor Isa Ali Pantami.
The event was attended by party supporters, youth groups and community stakeholders from across the local government area, a sign of a growing grassroots mobilising in the lead up to the next electoral cycle.
The Chairman of the PDP in Dukku Local Government Area, Alhaji Umar Ladan, known popularly as Dan Majen Dukku, officially received the new members into the party at the gathering.
According to him, the mass defection was a “big endorsement” for the PDP, and an indication of increasing confidence by the people in the leadership qualities and vision of Professor Pantami.
Ladan assured the new entrants of equal opportunities in the party and urged them to be active in strengthening the PDP at ward and local government levels.
“The party is still committed to building an all-inclusive political platform that can address the developmental aspirations of the people of Gombe State,” he said.
The defectors said they were inspired to support Pantami’s governorship ambition by his track record of service, leadership credentials and commitment to development.
They promised to work at expanding the PDP’s support base in Dukku and other parts of the state before the 2027 governorship election.
Political observers see this development as another indication of the changing political equations in Gombe State, especially in Dukku, where support for Pantami’s governorship ambition appears to be gaining momentum through sustained grassroots engagement and mobilisation.
